Toilet Leak in Lima, Ohio
A toilet in Lima, OH, leaked for a week. Thankfully it was a supply line and not the sewage line! The water leaked across the floor and under one of the walls, damaging the floor of a closet. Water always flows downhill and moves toward drier materials, which meant this water soaked down through the closet floor and into the garage.
Once a plumber had repaired the leak on the toilet, our team was able to move in to begin the dry-out process. Because of the water damage, we removed the flooring in the closet, along with the baseboards. That allowed the walls and floor boards to dry out more effectively.
In the bathroom, the baseboards were removed to dry-out effectively too. The black mold on the back of the baseboards was no surprise. When water sits for a while, it creates the perfect environment for mold to grow. This may not have been the first water damage in the bathroom!
In the garage, part of the ceiling was removed. Part of that was because the water had damaged it, and part of that was to allow the floor of the closet it above it to dry out. We hooked up a fan to blow directly on the area, and it dried out quickly.
